Opportunity Nashville is offering free training for aspiring local leaders who want to step up and serve their community. The application for the inaugural cohort of Build the Bench is open now through May 5, 2025!
Build the Bench is a free, hybrid-virtual leadership training program designed for Davidson County residents interested in running for office.
Whether you’re considering a bid for school board, city council, or any other local seat, this program will equip you with the knowledge, tools, and connections to launch a successful campaign. Participants will hear from experienced speakers, receive mentorship, and gain a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to run for office
Participant Requirements
Must be a Davidson County resident
Interest in running for local office or getting involved in political leadership
Ability to attend all four sessions (hybrid format: half virtual, half in-person)
Willingness to engage with materials and actively participate in discussions
Selection Process
Applications must be submitted by May 5, 2025. Our team will review applications and select a diverse cohort representing different areas of Nashville. All applicants will receive a notification about their application status by May 9, 2025. Due to limited spots, not all applicants will be accepted into the 2025 program. If you are not selected, we encourage you to apply again next year.
2025 Program Dates
In person Saturday sessions will take place in the morning from 10 am-12 pm, and virtual Thursday sessions will take place in the evening from 5:30-7 pm. All in-person meetings will be held at Operation Stand Down.
